Team

Alien Workshop is built like infrastructure: durable, forward-thinking systems that reduce coordination cost and turn knowledge into execution. That requires a team culture with an institutional engineering bar—clarity, reliability, security posture, and long-horizon product discipline.

Operating philosophy: Build a platform that compounds. Make workflows repeatable. Make outputs reusable. Make the system trustworthy under pressure.

Leadership

Founder-led • Engineering-first • Long-horizon mission

Founder & CEO — John Steele

John Steele leads Alien Workshop with a builder’s mindset: systems, tools, and platforms that stand up to real-world constraints. He is a University of Washington computer science alumnus with two decades of experience building engineering tools, runtimes, platform systems, services, and modern AI infrastructure.

His career has included work across large-scale enterprises and major tech environments—shipping software that has to be reliable, maintainable, and fast. Today, he leads Alien Workshop from company headquarters on Mercer Island, Washington, with direct access to one of the deepest engineering talent corridors in the country.

  • Focus: engineering tools, developer platforms, systems, and AI infrastructure
  • Approach: predictable behavior, clean architecture, measurable quality, durable execution
  • Public work: GitHub: github.com/johnsteele

Mercer Island Advantage

Mercer Island sits directly between Seattle and Bellevue on Lake Washington—connected by I-90—placing Alien Workshop in the center of the Seattle–Bellevue tech corridor. This position creates an unusually dense talent pool: senior engineers, operators, and researchers who have built infrastructure at global scale.

Dense Senior Talent

The surrounding region is home to major technology campuses and offices on both sides of Lake Washington—supporting a deep bench of experienced builders and leaders.

  • Eastside: proximity to Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond
  • Seattle + Bellevue: Amazon’s Puget Sound campuses
  • Seattle + Kirkland: major Google presence in the metro area

Why This Matters

Great infrastructure is built by people who have already shipped under pressure: reliability, performance, security, and the discipline to iterate without breaking trust.

  • Reliability: systems that behave predictably
  • Velocity: move fast without fragility
  • Craft: clarity in writing, interfaces, and execution
Translation: Alien Workshop is being built in a region where “ex-Microsoft / ex-Amazon / ex-Google” is common—meaning the default talent baseline is already infrastructure-grade.

What the Team is Built For

Alien Workshop is not a single feature. It is an evolving platform surface across content generation, editing, organization, retrieval, collaboration, automation, and publishing—designed to feel cohesive and dependable.

Engineering & Platforms

Tooling, runtime systems, performance, reliability, and platform primitives that scale.

Applied AI & Quality

Workflows that turn model capability into dependable product behavior: evaluation loops, structured outputs, and safety.

Search & Retrieval

Indexing and relevance foundations that make answers fast, traceable, and reusable.

Operations & Execution

Systems that keep shipping velocity high: process, release cadence, internal clarity, and high-signal coordination.
